Storms are expected to continue across a swath of the central U.S. ahead of the Labor Day weekend.

Strong storms are currently moving through parts of Texas, Louisiana, and the broader southern plains, with some reaching severe levels. A tornado warning was previously issued north of Monroe but has since expired, and the overall tornado risk appears low based on radar observations.

Heavy rainfall remains the primary concern, with forecast and observed totals between four to eight inches in some areas, raising the risk of localized flooding. The storm system is expected to continue producing downpours across the high plains, including Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, New Mexico, Kansas, and the Oklahoma and Texas panhandles, as it progresses.

Strong storms push from Kansas to Arkansas

Still tracking some strong storms moving into Dallas as of right now. None of those storms are severe. One severe storm there moving towards Tyler, Texas right now in eastern northeast Texas. Now, we also had a tornado warning earlier north of Monroe that we were tracking. But I do want to point out that that tornado warning has since been allowed to expire. I did look at the the overall radar presentation. It wasn't very impressive, not necessarily sure what exactly prompted the tornado warning from the National Weather Service. But the storm did look like it was possibly producing some low level rotation, but the rotation signature was very weak. But overall, that was still a strong thunderstorm producing some heavy rain and some strong winds. But I didn't necessarily see the tornado potential of that particular storm. But overall, here we will be watching out for some strong to moderately severe storms, some borderline severe storms here pushing through east Texas and northern parts of Louisiana. The overall storm motion is going to be from northeast or from northwest to southeast, moving about 30 miles an hour. So the good news is these storms overall with how fast they are moving, that's going to limit some of the flooding potential, which you see that video there from Edmond yesterday. We're going to see some heavy rainfall here for some of these areas. So we definitely need to mitigate as much heavy rainfall as we can to help out the flooding potential, because as you look at all the rainfall we had on Wednesday, all the rainfall we've seen today and all the rainfall we're forecasting for tomorrow, we're going to have two zones that we have highlighted for forecast rainfall total and observed rainfall amounts between four to eight inches. So we're going to be watching out for still increasing flooding potential here across this region, even as we have throughout the day tomorrow. So we're not done with the heavy rainfall just yet. It's going to recharge here as we head into tomorrow. But after that here, look what happens as we head into late Friday and throughout the day on Saturday. Frequent downpours will develop here across the high plains of Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska and New Mexico, and also parts of Kansas and the panhandles of both Oklahoma and Texas. So we're going to be watching out for flooding downpours possible and potentially across these regions as well, even as we head into the weekend. So across the southern plains and the high plains, especially watching out for flooding rainfall.
