Spirit Airlines has announced it will discontinue all flights in and out of Salt Lake City International Airport. The carrier, which has operated from Salt Lake City since 2022, currently serves four destinations from the airport: Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Orlando, and Detroit. 

Industry experts note that while Spirit's exit may lead to higher airfares for some travelers, other budget airlines such as Frontier, Breeze, and Allegiant continue to offer services in the region, including from nearby Provo Airport. Passengers with Spirit bookings after the service ends are legally entitled to refunds, though rebooking with other airlines may result in increased costs.

I tried it once and it really didn't turn out to be a discount by the time they charged you all the additional fees. Curtis has relied on Spirit as a manager booking his work team's travel. I felt like Spirit looked after everyone's pocketbook before they looked after, you know, some of the other things that the airlines look at. Frontier goes from Salt Lake City, Breeze and Allegiant go from Provo, so you've got a couple of options in the budget space. Spirit flies to just four destinations from Salt Lake, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Orlando and Detroit. If you're booked on a Spirit flight after October 4th, there's good and bad news. Don't panic. Legally, they are required to refund you your flight. You're not gonna lose any money on this. That's great. The bad news is if you probably booked Spirit because it was a cheap flight at the right time and now they're not flying anymore and so when you go to rebook, it's probably gonna be a little more expensive. It's a deterrent when I look at $300 different prices and tickets to get somewhere. Spirit Airlines has only flown out of Salt Lake since 2022 and in this volatile industry, it's impossible to know whether they'll emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy with new ambitions in Salt Lake.
