SPF + makeup: Making them play nice

I'm talking to my friend and board-certified dermatologist Dr. Leela Adelaide and I have two questions. Hi! Go ahead. Okay. I know I'm supposed to wear an SPF every day all year long, but at what point in my skincare routine am I supposed to apply it? SPF should be the last step of your AM skincare routine and right before you put on your makeup. So if you wanted to do it in order, you'd start with a cleanser, then a vitamin C serum, then a moisturizer, then your SPF, and then finally your makeup. And ideally a makeup that contains SPF so you get double protection. Okay, I can handle that. Next question. From one makeup-wearing human to another, I know that I'm supposed to reapply every two hours. But what am I supposed to use and how am I supposed to reapply it so that I don't mess this up and have to start over? If you're a minimalist, the simplest thing to do is use a tinted sunscreen as your makeup and as your reapplication. So for example, you can find a tinted sunscreen. There's so many good companies that make them and they are really targeted for all skin types. They're very inclusive these days. You can find one that fits you, you put that on as your makeup, and then you reapply it when you need to reapply it every two hours. For all you makeup lovers, I really like the Powder SPF.
