Elsewhere in the region, a small town of Castellot was also hit by torrents of water, which in some places burst brick walls. Valencia meanwhile closed all public spaces and most schools on Monday after the weather agency kept coastal areas under the highest red alert. More than 200 people lost their lives in last year's flash floods, which sparked public anger over the warning systems and emergency response. Residents of the region have been urged to exercise extreme caution, in the hope that history will not repeat itself.
