The event has drawn attention to air safety, coinciding with another recent near-miss involving a commercial flight and a B-52 bomber in North Dakota. Efforts to modernize air traffic control systems are underway, supported by significant new funding.

A spokesperson for Southwest says the company is working with the FAA to look further into the circumstances regarding this incident. Data from flight tracking site FlightAware shows the plane dropped roughly 300 feet in 26 seconds. This caused some passengers to fly up out of their seats while others screamed, fearing the worst. I had the baby on board and the baby was screaming. People going, oh my God, a lot of no's. And then a woman screaming, I want to get off, I want to get off. While no passengers were seriously hurt, two flight attendants were treated for injuries. The plane eventually landed in Las Vegas safely. The incident comes just one week after a pilot flying over North Dakota made a last minute move to avoid crashing into a B-52 bomber on the same flight path. Sorry about the aggressive maneuver, it caught me by surprise, this is not normal at all. These back-to-back incidents underscoring the importance of air safety. Earlier this week, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy shared his plans on securing the skies and modernizing the air traffic control system with the help of a GOP mega bill passed earlier this month.
