South Division High School is hosting a school supplies drive to support students as they prepare for the upcoming year. The effort aims to ensure all students have the tools they need to succeed.

South Division High School in Milwaukee held its fourth annual community fair, featuring a school supply drive that provided students with essential materials, clothing, and resources for the upcoming academic year. The event, made possible through fundraising and donations, also offered services such as haircuts for Milwaukee Public School students.

Organized by staff and volunteers, the drive aims to ease the burden on families and help students start the school year prepared. With over 600 backpacks ready to distribute, the initiative reflects the school's ongoing commitment to supporting the local community and fostering student success.

But at the end of the day, when you see this happening and see other people that you're helping in so many different ways, it's just very rewarding. Kylan, who you just heard from here, reached out to TMJ4 to let us know about South Division High School's 4th annual community fair. It's a school supply drive which gives MPS students the materials they need for the upcoming year. Ben Hanson was there and talks with her and students about getting all set up for success. I'm fast. I could probably run all the way over there right now. Come Irion, who is 8 years old, wants to be a bodybuilder and a runner when he's older. 32 plus 32 is 64. He's a month away from entering 3rd grade. A lot of kids his age would be dreading going back to school, but not come Irion. I can't wait to go back to school so I can have new stuff in my book bag. South Division High School is making Milwaukee kids excited about the school year while easing parents anxiety about it by putting on a supplies drive for Kayleen Barreiro, who works during the school year as a parent coordinator at South Division. Coordinating this event isn't one of her job requirements, but she does it because she wants to see her community succeed. Seeing all these people lined up just shows the true necessity of our community. You know, and sometimes it takes, you know, one group of people to, you know, just make things happen for you know those that are in need. The drive provides school students with supplies, clothes, resource outreach, and even a haircut for Milwaukee public school kids. This is the 4th year for the event made possible by fundraising and donations. I feel super blessed, you know, with the turnouts and you know, just being able to give back to the community which is like one of our main goals here at this school. Just super rewarding. Last year, the drive had about 500 people come through these doors, but this year they're expecting a lot more. They have over 600 backpacks that they're ready to give out to kids for this upcoming school year. Why did you choose that backpack specifically? Because it was my favorite color and I like sharks. The principal of South Division, Jose Trejo, tells me that providing to the community has always been a theme at the center of the school's mission. South Division has a long history of being the center of this community, so we're very excited about being able to host an event like this.
