The process of recovering the remains of Israeli hostages in Gaza has been slow, with only eight bodies returned so far. Hamas cites difficulties in locating the hostages' remains, as many commanders responsible for their burial are no longer alive and thousands of Gazans are still missing, presumed buried under rubble from Israeli airstrikes. 

The ongoing devastation in Gaza, where over 90% of buildings have been damaged or destroyed, complicates recovery efforts. In response to the slow return of bodies, Israel has reduced the number of aid trucks entering Gaza, according to the United Nations.
