A winter weather system has moved through New England, bringing a mix of rain, ice, and heavy snow to the region. Snowfall totals reached up to 8.6 inches in some areas, including Beirston, New York, and Damascus, Pennsylvania, while parts of Massachusetts and Vermont also saw significant accumulation.

Temperatures varied widely, with coastal cities such as Boston and Portland experiencing a 10-degree difference. Road surface temperatures remained below freezing in many areas, increasing the risk of refreezing overnight. The snow event is expected to end in Maine by early morning, with colder conditions anticipated as an Arctic front moves in.

We got cold rain, steady rain falling and if you had a little west of the city, you get into the ice and the snow northwest of the city right now. So again, overall, the back edge of precipitation moving through Connecticut, far eastern New York into areas like places near Troy and Rensselaer County near the Massachusetts line and then up into places like Maine, the snow continues to fall. Temperatures still a little nippy for most of us in the interior, but along the coastline, 42 in Richmond, 36 in Boston. But 26 in Portland, big difference there. Two coastal cities, both in New England, 36 versus 26, a 10 degree difference there from Boston heading north to Portland. Meanwhile, up into areas from Chicago to Green Bay, 19 degrees. Bundle up out there. It's a cold one. Overall, road surface temps you could see were below freezing in most areas northwest of Interstate 95. So even if you saw rain today as opposed to snow, you may have some refreezing in areas like Bethlehem, PA and south of there that saw maybe a mixed bag ending as rain. You could see some refreezing tonight. Top snow reports by state for the northeast, 8.6 inches in Beirston, New York, eight inches in Damascus, Pennsylvania. And we're still going to see these numbers increase into Otis, Massachusetts, West Wardsboro, Vermont, six and seven inches there. The snow is still coming down in those spots. So overall, we're going to wrap up this snow event here, probably ending in Bangor, Maine, maybe around 4 a.m. or so. But we're in the midst of a six plus inch snow event there for some in southern New Hampshire. Tomorrow's going to be a quieter day, not as much action as the system exits, but we'll get ready for the next front to arrive from the north and west. It'll be an Arctic front that is going to be a bit of a game changer, bringing cold into the mix.
