Severe storms have struck the Southeast United States, resulting in confirmed tornadoes and widespread flash flooding, particularly in Mississippi and Alabama. Authorities report an EF0 tornado in Mississippi and multiple water rescues in Alabama due to dangerous flooding, with ongoing storm surveys to assess additional damage.

Heavy rainfall, slow-moving storms, and repeated rounds of severe weather have led to significant accumulations, with some areas receiving up to 8 inches of rain over two days. The severe weather threat is expected to shift eastward and decrease in intensity, but cleanup from flooding and tornadoes may continue as the weather front moves out of the region.

We're getting a look at damage from a likely tornado earlier today from the Tyler Town area. There was very strong indication here on radar that this was indeed a tornado. Storm surveys have been in progress today and there is some news from farther north in Mississippi. Yeah, a separate E F zero tornado was confirmed today. It was on the ground for more than four miles from part of Madison County to a section of Lake County over 10 minutes. This tornado was on the ground overall and it's just those really both of those are two of the reports and two of the tornadoes are possible tornadoes in the first case that we are watching. There's other reports as well and even some wind reports that could later be confirmed as a tornado from storm surveys. So you can see on our storm reports here, these really mostly into Mississippi will get more information in the coming hours and especially the coming days. But we do have flash flood reports into Alabama. Those are two one kind of right on top of the other on our map here. Both of these are reports of water rescues. So not just flash flooding, but very serious and dangerous situations. A reminder, don't try to walk or drive through any flooded roadways. It's just never worth the risk. At this point, we don't have the details of these water rescues, whether that's how it got to the situation, but just some safety reminders to always practice overall heavy rainfall. I mean, you can see why we're into these situations, especially the areas in yellow here where some of the heaviest rain has fallen, talking several inches at this point. And then, of course, there's the strong winds, the circulation leading to the damage you're seeing on the right hand side of your screen. So last six hours, pretty slow moving storms as well. And a lot of the same areas are getting hit with round after round of heavy rainfall. So it's not even just relatively slow movement, but it's repeated rounds of rain that are leading to problems. The rest of the evening, we're continuing to track this area for the biggest threat of severe weather, especially our level two out of four moderate risk area does include Jackson portions of I 55 and I 20. There all types of severe weather possible, but we have been seeing more severe thunderstorm warnings and tornado warnings over the last two hours, roughly. So keep in mind that that is a big concern in the near term, but even overnight as well. Let's take a better look at how all that plays out on future clouds and radar. I want you to take a look at Jackson here. It's an example I'm gonna use for all of the heavy rainfall. It's round after round that hits Jackson, the yellows, the oranges, the reds on future radar here. That's why flash flooding is such a concern, not just there, but really across the region. So we're at eight a.m. Saturday. Now, throughout the day, the threat is going to shift to the east. Still a severe weather concern here. I'll show you that map in just a minute. By Sunday, the front clears the region moves off the coast. We start to clear out even the clouds. We get a break after multi day severe weather event. However, we could still be cleaning up from flash flooding tornadoes. It's one of those situations. And with the flash flooding, here's your context. Birmingham, 48 inches, 48 in Jackson, 2 to 4 in Knoxville. Any of these areas that is just too much rain. Yes, it's stressed over two days, but that's still just too much rain all at once. Certainly can lead to problems. We need the rain, but we don't need that much so close together. I mentioned the severe weather threat for tomorrow. Here it is. The area we're most concerned about shifts to the east and decreases a little bit. We're down to a level one out of four. Some risk. You'll notice less of a tornado threat, however, can't rule it out, especially first thing in the morning. This morning we saw leftover severe weather from the overnight continuing before storms weekend. We got a couple hours break and then things ramped up again. Do not be surprised if the pattern repeats itself tomorrow as well.
