City and state officials have called for peaceful protests as concerns grow over potential further violence.

They're riding through the streets, just snatching people out of bus stops, taking people as they're going to work, grabbing people in their schools. They're harassing people. They tell lies like they're going after dangerous criminals and making the city safer. They're not going after criminals. They're going after people that are working, paying taxes, taking care of their families. And they're making our city way more unsafe. The unrest stemming from the deployment of some 2,000 federal agents by the Trump administration. Federal officials say this is the largest immigration enforcement operation ever carried out. At an ICE detention center in the south of the city, three members of the U.S. Congress, including Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar, were denied access to the facility. Shortly after we were let in, two officials came in and said that they received a message that we were no longer allowed to be in the building and that they were rescinding our invitation to come in and declining any further access to the building. What happened today is a blatant attempt to obstruct members of Congress from doing their oversight duties. In recent days, ICE agents have raided schools and other public spaces, detaining dozens of suspected undocumented immigrants, though many have also reported arrests of U.S. citizens, including Native Americans, many accusing federal agents of racial profiling. At this point, it's not even just your status here. It's your safety that you're putting on the line, leaving the house. That is a problem for me. So that's why I'm out here doing what I think, waving the flag, supporting my peoples, just like anybody else do. I got friends out here. I got people out here. I got family out here doing the same exact thing. Tensions have increased since an ICE agent shot and killed a Minneapolis woman on January 7. Multiple videos captured the incident from different angles, images that have since divided opinions nationwide. We're on the streets of Minneapolis witnessing what is now the largest protest that we've seen against the ongoing presence of ICE agents here in the city. People say they are angry over the ongoing presence of ICE. They are angry over that shooting death that took place at the hands of an immigration agent last Wednesday, and telling us that this protest is just one of many more to come. As the Trump administration prepares a possible surge of additional federal agents to Minneapolis, city and state officials are urging protesters to remain peaceful amid fears of more violence and unrest.
