The final days of July will bring flash flood risks to Colorado.

Colorado's Front Range is facing a renewed risk of severe weather, with meteorologists highlighting the potential for flash flooding along the I-25 corridor from the Wyoming to New Mexico borders. The areas of Denver, Colorado Springs, and Pueblo are particularly at risk due to unusually high humidity levels, which provide ample moisture for slow-moving storms.

Recent weather patterns have already caused significant flooding in parts of northern Colorado, such as Greeley, where heavy rain led to street flooding and stalled vehicles. While only a few severe storms with hail and damaging winds are expected, the main concern remains heavy rainfall and the resulting flash flood threat. Residents are advised to exercise caution, especially when driving during heavy rain.

Severe storm potential returns to Colorado

It has been hot and muggy, even more so than we're used to here along the Colorado Front Range, but a break from that humidity, unfortunately, is going to come with the price in terms of severe weather and potentially some flash flood potential, mainly along the Front Range Urban Corridor. We're talking about that I-25 corridor, basically from the Wyoming border down to the New Mexico border. We're really going to be tracking the areas here from Denver and south toward Colorado Springs and Pueblo for that potential to see that brief severe weather threat, but mainly going to be a flash flood threat. We've seen this here over the last couple of weeks, off and on, where we get into these active patterns. Last week, for instance, up in northern Colorado, we saw some pretty substantial flooding in the town of Greeley, a little college town up there, home of the UNC Bears. They saw some pretty heavy rain there last Thursday that flooded a bunch of streets in that area, stalling some cars, creating some issue. We got a little bit of hail out of some of those storms as well. Not expecting big severe weather today. There is certainly that potential. We could see a couple of severe storms, mainly with some larger hail and potentially some damaging winds with that, but it's going to be the heavy rain as these storms are going to be slow moving. Again, as I mentioned, we talk about the humidity here along the Front Range. Much, much higher than we typically see. It has been very, very humid, so a lot of moisture in the air for those storms to work with. That is going to lead to that flash flood threat today and possibly again tomorrow. I'll be tracking those storms here over the next couple of days along the Front Range. So certainly, again, if you are on the roads when those rains hit, turn around, don't drown.
