Daniel Sanders, the defending champion, was the fastest to complete Stage 6 of the Dakar Rally, covering 336 kilometers to Riyadh. However, he received a six-minute penalty for speeding, which dropped him to third place for the stage but allowed him to retain a 45-second overall lead over American Ricky Brabeck, who was awarded the stage victory. 

Edgar Canet finished Stage 5 without any rubber on his back wheel, highlighting the extreme conditions of the rally. Tabby Price finished fourth in Stage 6, 39 minutes behind the leading car. Competitors will have a rest day in a hotel before continuing the rally.

Competitors are going to extremes in the Dakar Rally, which is kind of the point. Edgar Canet finished Stage 5 without any rubber on his back wheel. The Saudi sand dunes are canvas for Daniel Sanders, the defending champion, fastest to cover the 336km to Riyadh on Stage 6. But he was penalised for doing 98km per hour in a 50 zone and copped a six minute penalty. The Aussie demoted to third on the day. He hangs on to a 45 second overall lead ahead of American Ricky Brabeck, who was given the stage victory. I wish I didn't have the penalty and I would have been super happy with the whole stage, but it's just I haven't pieced this first week together so well, so I just need to clean it up for the second. Tabby Price finished the stage in fourth place. He's 39 minutes off the leading car though. The competitors get to sleep in a hotel on a rest day, wouldn't that be nice, before resuming the desert marathon.
