City officials, including Mayor Matt Mahan, are positioning San Jose as a leading destination for AI innovation by offering financial incentives, tax breaks, and professional services to attract and retain AI startups.

The city has also launched an AI center for excellence, an upskilling program for city workers, and pilot projects to improve municipal services. With 170 companies applying for the grants and 91 venture-backed AI startups now based in San Jose, the city is strengthening its reputation as a growing hub for artificial intelligence.

Yeah the mayor calls San Jose America's AI capital and through money and messaging they're trying to make it very attractive for companies to come here and to stay. Using AI, MetaFoodX is tackling the problem of food waste, the hope that restaurants and food service operators can optimize and save. With the data now they can reduce their overproduction rate by 50% within weeks. That's what actually we have seen in the field. The company chose San Jose as its home base, a city with a growing AI ecosystem, an abundance of talent and a government they say that seems to encourage the sector's growth. When the private sector and the public, the government can be aligned on the vision on where things should go, how we should approach it, then things go much faster. In fact San Jose mayor Matt Mahan is all in on AI. He just announced a series of grants, one of which went to MetaFoodX. He also launched an AI center for excellence, an upskilling program to teach city workers about AI and a series of pilot projects intended to optimize city services like bus routes. We are all the better for it and San Jose is that much closer to being the definitive capital of AI for the world. This is a talent play. Ultimately the most innovative places have the greatest density of talent. He's hoping to lure companies in and keep them here. For the AI grants alone, 170 companies applied. Will Gaviria Rojas of Coactive AI helped pick the winners. I do think the grants will have a really positive impact but I also see say say in general it does give the right signal that like you know San Jose is a city that's really thinking about the future. Grant recipients were given $50,000 plus offered tax breaks and a suite of professional services but MetaFoodX says they're most excited about the network they've gained. I think that's why getting this grant I view it as a beginning point. I want them to be able to work more closely with the community. City officials say there are now 91 venture-backed AI startups in San Jose valued at about six billion dollars. Claudine. All right thank you.
