To stay warm, she goes to this invincibility centre, where people can drink hot tea and use electricity. The city has erected these centres across Kiev in the wake of Russian strikes on its infrastructure. At home, I don't get out from under the blanket at all. Here you can talk to people, support each other, charge our devices. Across the capital, people are banding together, finding creative ways to survive in the cold. And on social media, some of those who do have electricity are opening up their apartments to people to come and share power, a show of camaraderie not seen since the beginning of the war. While it's a valiant effort, it may not be enough. Thousands around the city only have electricity for as little as two hours per day, and thousands more have no heating at all. As city workers race to repair damaged cars by ongoing Russian strikes, the mayor has called on residents to leave. While one MP has warned certain districts may need to be evacuated altogether. But Lyudmila says she has no intentions of leaving. There is nowhere to go and no money for it. Human adapts for everything and endures.
