According to local officials, this recent offensive by Russia included the use of missiles and guided bombs, devastating the city and its surrounding areas.

In one of the attacks, a recreation area outside Kharkiv city was targeted, killing five people and wounding 16. Kharkiv's mayor reported the incident on the social media platform Telegram. Natalia Burankova, a local resident and first aid responder, described finding a pregnant woman under the rubble who had no pulse. Local police inspector Yaroslav Trofimko noted that a second explosion occurred shortly after their arrival, injuring more civilians and an ambulance medic. Ukraine has accused Russia of employing double-tap strikes, intending to harm emergency workers at the scene.

Additionally, Russian forces shelled two villages in the Kopiankst district, resulting in five more fatalities and nine injuries, as reported by the local governor. President Volodymyr Zelensky has urged Western allies to provide Kyiv with additional air defence systems to protect cities like Kharkiv from such attacks.

This is the aftermath of one attack on Sunday at a recreation area just outside the city. Five people were killed, including a pregnant woman, and 16 were wounded, according to Kharkiv's mayor on Telegram. Local resident and first aid responder Natalia Burankova described the area as a place where people came to relax. There were no soldiers here, absolutely none. I retrieved a pregnant girl from beneath the rubble. She didn't have a pulse. Local police inspector Yaroslav Trofimko told Reuters they arrived after the first explosion and gave first aid to civilians. But five minutes later there was a second explosion, which wounded more civilians and an ambulance medic. Ukraine has accused Russia of using double-tap strikes to kill or injure emergency workers at the scene of strike impacts. Later two villages in the Kopiankst district would also be shelled by Russian forces, according to the local governor. At least five people were killed and nine injured. President Volodymyr Zelensky again called on Western allies to supply Kyiv with additional air defence systems to protect Kharkiv and other cities.
