Police have made an arrest for the death of a 6-month-old baby found dead in the back of a car in the Rockwall Heath High School parking lot.

Authorities in Rockwall, Texas, are investigating the death of a six-month-old girl who was left in a hot car for approximately eight hours. The infant was discovered unresponsive in the back seat outside Rockwall Heath High School, and paramedics confirmed her death at the scene, with her body temperature recorded at 107 degrees.

Police have arrested 36-year-old Cameron Leitchman, who had recently become the child's caregiver. According to investigators, Leitchman was supposed to drop the child at daycare after taking his wife to work but instead returned home, leaving the infant in the car. The relationship between Leitchman, his wife, and the infant has not been clarified, and no bond has been set for Leitchman at this time.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, the infant was left in a hot car for about eight hours until she was discovered. By the time paramedics responded, she was already dead. And as you mentioned, the man who was supposed to be taking care of her is now in jail. A gut-wrenching reaction from a woman who just learned an infant entrusted in her neighbor's care died after being left in a hot car all day. She sat in the backseat for eight hours. I cannot believe that. I did not know that's what they were down there for. Wykee Johnson saw the police activity from where she lives, down the street from 36-year-old Cameron Leitchman. According to Rockwall Police, Leitchman was supposed to drop a six-month-old girl off at daycare after he dropped his wife off at Rockwall Heath High School where she works. He takes her every freaking morning. Every morning he takes her. Instead, investigators say he drove back home and left the infant in her car seat in the back passenger compartment all day long. It wasn't until Leitchman drove back to Rockwall Heath High School to pick up his wife around 4 40 p.m. Tuesday that someone noticed the infant was in the backseat and unresponsive. How could he forget her? How could he forget her? According to an arrest warrant affidavit, the caller reported an unresponsive six-month-old female infant in a car seat in the back right passenger compartment. It goes on to state the medics took the infant temperature and it was 107 degrees. No treatment was provided to the infant as she was obviously deceased. Police say Leitchman recently became a caregiver to the child but did not elaborate on that relationship. That's just surreal. Like Arianne Muir, a mother herself also lives in the neighborhood. She's heartbroken for the mother of the infant dealing with a monumental loss due to Leitchman's alleged actions. Have sympathy towards them because I I know as a mom, I will be devastated. I will be like never forgiving myself for that. That's just grief that has to process, you know, it will never get better. Yeah. And according again to Rockwall police, they would only say that Leitchman had become a recent caregiver of the girl. So it's unclear if the suspect or his wife are related to the infant.
