Incident commanders report challenging conditions, with containment efforts hampered by the fire's growth and unpredictable weather, including the threat of thunderstorms and lightning. There are new evacuation orders in the Western Slope as multiple large wildfires continue to grow closer to populated areas. Now the leaf fire in Rio Blanco County has now reached the Garfield County line to the South. That fire has surpassed 123,000 acres and containment has decreased actually to now 4%. The Crocio fire in northeastern Rio Blanco County and Route County is now more than 1700 acres and also no containment. We have made it halfway through this week. Glad to have you with us tonight. Now Governor Polis today announced he's going to visit the Western Slope fire zone tomorrow. He will meet with wildfire crews working in those difficult terrain and those very tough conditions. In fact, it's those tough conditions making these fires unpredictable and prompting new evacuation orders tonight. Number seven is Glenn Bordelon live in the studio with us and collect your also hearing from people who are packed up and they're ready to go when told. That's right, and here are those new evacuation zones, so it's 8184 and 85. They're right here on this map and I know it can be kind of busy, which is why I want to point them out to you. Right down here is rifle just for a little bit of perspective. Now 81 and 85. Those are on top of the Rowan Plateau, making up mostly an industrial landscape or public lands. As these new evacuation orders creep closer to I-70, I spoke with one woman who lives in Newcastle who's on high alert. For a couple who just moved to this Garfield County home in March, you know I have my bug out bag. I have my car packed right now. They never would have guessed that by August they'd be ready to leave at a moment's notice. It's halfway packed because I have two cats so I if I need to go they're coming and whatever else is in the car is with me. This is Jessica Brady who lives in Newcastle. I can't see the fire, but I can definitely smell it and who feels too close for comfort when it comes to the leaf fire. You know, honestly, it's really distracting. It's exhausting. The other day we woke up and I couldn't even see the Hogback Mountains. I think the air quality was 350 or something like that. You know, I thought my house was on fire. There was so much smoke. It was in my house. The leaf fire is one of the largest in state history and the largest fire burning in Colorado right now. At more than 120,000 acres, it does cause a lot of anxiety because it was going up to 6% containment and now we're back to 4% containment. We had 6% containment. Now back down to four. Can you talk me through why that is? So fire gained acreage, which decreased our containment on this fire. Benjamin Sanders is an incident command trainee on the fire. Rocky Mountain Team 3 has been here 10 days. How are you feeling right now? It seems like everybody's a little tired. New evacuation orders were issued on Wednesday in Garfield County as the southern edge of the leaf fire reached the county line and expecting maybe red flag conditions tomorrow with possible chance of thunderstorms. The fire was started by lightning, something everyone hopes doesn't happen again with any potential incoming storms. Is it going to go West? Is it going to go east, south and every single day I'm paying attention to that. So it you know it's it's exhausting in a way while Brady hopes for the best. And prepares for the worst. There's a community meeting about the leaf fire tomorrow evening and rifle fire managers and local authorities will be there.
