A persistent pattern of reinforcing cold fronts is keeping cold air entrenched over much of the central and eastern United States. Northerly winds, aided by a ridge to the west, are bringing repeated surges of frigid air, with the coldest temperatures currently felt in northern areas such as Duluth.

Forecasts indicate that additional batches of cold air will continue to move southward, causing temperatures to drop further in regions like Ohio and Pennsylvania. The cold is expected to intensify over the next 24 hours, reaching into southern states by the following morning.

In fact that cold air will come all the way down into the south as mentioned.
