We end tonight in Israel. An anxious nation awaits the return of the remaining hostages 737 days after the Hamas terror attack that shocked Israel and the world. Over 1,200 people died making it the deadliest day in Jewish history since the Holocaust. Israel responded to the attack with an aggressive military operation that has left much of Gaza in ruins and 67,000 Palestinians dead according to the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry. In the U.S. there was a wave of protests including demonstrations on campuses with demands colleges and universities divest from Israel. Many were peaceful. Others were not. The activism raised questions about anti-semitism and debate over where criticism of Israel ends and hate speech begins. In the year after October 7th, the Anti-Defamation League reported over 10,000 anti-semitic incidents across the U.S., the highest ever recorded. Presidents Biden and Trump supported Israel, but Israel's attack on Doha Qatar last month proved pivotal in a push for peace. The Americans had seen enough and pushed all sides towards a ceasefire. 20 days later President Trump and Netanyahu stood together at the White House declaring support for a plan that is now unfolding tonight, a diplomatic feat years in the making. Within moments the last of the hostages are expected to finally be free and reunited with their families and for the Palestinians of Gaza a chance to rebuild their lives.

On his way to the Middle East, U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters he expects the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas to hold, despite concerns Hamas won’t abide by the deal.
