Dangerous heat is set to bake the Southeast with potentially record-breaking temperatures through early next week. Multiple cities such as Raleigh, Charleston, Savannah and Jacksonville are forecasted to reach upper 90s and even triple digits.

A significant heatwave is expected to impact the Southeast United States, with temperatures forecasted to reach or surpass record highs in several cities. The heat will extend from the Northeast down to the Gulf Coast, including areas such as Florida, Atlanta, Raleigh, Charleston, and Jacksonville. Overnight temperatures are also expected to remain unusually warm due to high humidity, potentially breaking records for warmest overnight lows in cities like Charlotte, Columbia, and Tampa. The persistence of this heatwave is anticipated to make conditions particularly challenging for residents across the region.

Record heat to scorch Southeast in coming days

Here is a look at where we could break some records. We've got the Northeast all the way down to the Gulf Coast, even into Florida. These dots represent where we could either break the afternoon high temperature record or the overnight low, which will not cool off very much because of all that humidity in the air just doesn't cool off as efficiently. So for today, yes, we're close to average in the South. You've got the low 90s, Atlanta, back up towards Broadway and Nashville, but check out Raleigh, Charleston, Jacksonville. You're in the mid to upper 90s. We saw upper 90s yesterday in DC. 92 is where we're going today. We're already off to a warm start. And then again, tomorrow morning, we'll start off with those lows in the upper 70s. I see some low 80s around the Tampa Bay area, possibly getting close to a record for some of you. In fact, here is a look at where those records stand for tomorrow morning, in terms of your warmest overnight low. So this is as cool as it gets. Tomorrow morning, 77 in Charlotte, likely to be warmer than what we saw back in 2022. Also, Columbia, South Carolina, looking to tie that record at 78. Tampa, oh, so close to your record that you had back in 2017 with how warm it is going to be tomorrow morning. Temperatures tomorrow, still lots of 90s out there, the eastern half of the country. Tomorrow, we see the potential for some record highs from Tallahassee all the way down to Macon, Georgia, oh, so close to your record. And then again on Monday. So it's really the endurance of this heat that's gonna be really tough for people to take.
