Meteorologists are forecasting a significant drop in temperatures across the interior Northeast and New England, with some areas expected to remain below freezing. The cold air is anticipated to persist through the weekend and into the following week, keeping snow on the ground in many locations. 

There is potential for record or near-record low temperatures, particularly in cities like Portland, and daytime highs may remain well below normal. The cold conditions are expected to impact a wide region, including the I-95 corridor and surrounding areas.

Our highs stay above freezing along the I-95 corridor, but the interior is going to stay below freezing, so that snow is going to be sticking around. Look at tomorrow morning. Again, temperature's still cold enough to keep that snow on the ground for us. And then Friday morning, that's when the really cold air is getting in. And we see cold air sticking around all the way through the weekend, actually, and into the beginning of next week. In fact, we could break records here. Look at Portland, we could break, or if not, tie records here throughout the Northeast and into New England. And then we could have record cold highs as well, meaning it doesn't get very warm.
