The tropics will stay quiet in the short-term, but the National Hurricane Center is keeping an eye on a new area in the Eastern Atlantic. A tropical wave is forecast to move off the coast of Africa by the weekend.

The National Hurricane Center is observing a weather system just off the coast of Africa. While the chance of development in the next two days is low, the probability increases to about 20% over the following week. 

Meteorologists are also monitoring the intertropical convergence zone and areas along the East Coast of the United States for potential activity. Despite current quiet conditions, authorities recommend staying prepared as weather patterns can change.

Quiet now, but National Hurricane Center tracking new area

This particular one that is just off the coast of of Africa. Next two days. Chances are not that great. You extrapolate that to the next seven days. That goes up a little bit, about 20% chance of further development. Now, in terms of areas that we could see things begin to pop next couple of days, next 10 days. Rather, we've got that zone along the intertropical converting zone. You always got to keep an eye on the southeast coast. We have these boundaries that make their way through from time to time. And as we check out areas of spin, obviously North Atlantic and of course, keep an eye on the east coast. On the intertropical converging zone, and although it seems relatively quiet, still, you always get to stay ready.

It's been 13 days since President Trump said he could strike a peace deal in Ukraine, following his meeting with Russia's leader, Vladimir Putin. But Russia shows no signs of backing down, launching an aerial assault on Kyiv.
