Queensland's Premier and other officials have responded by stressing the importance of showcasing Queensland's own natural wonders and cultural highlights, rather than relying on imagery from Sydney. The debate reflects a broader desire to present a uniquely Queensland identity on the world stage as preparations for the Games continue.

There's plenty to choose from to promote Queensland on the world stage. But as the race for a gold standard legacy event gets closer to the starting line, organising committee boss Andrew Liveris has ruffled a few feathers, suggesting as we show off Australia to the world, that could mean including the Opera House. You know, that big thing in Sydney. That isn't helping! What we can do is we can put a picture of the Sydney Harbour Bridge up and say that was the best Olympic and Paralympic Games until 2032. We can do that for them. We'll do that. But nothing else. The Australian brand is actually so well-respected across the world, but that doesn't mean the Opera House. It doesn't mean the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The Sydney suggestion comes with less than seven years until the opening ceremony. It is a beautiful part of the world, but nothing beats a beautiful shot of the Opera House. I think the only thing that could beat that was a shot of the Seacliff Bridge down my way. The Premier eager to keep the Queensland Games on the northern side of the border. I don't see a Great Barrier Reef in Sydney. I don't see magic outback sunsets in Sydney. I don't see rainforest. I don't see the quality of beaches. So, no, we don't need to use the Sydney Harbour. Sydney did host the greatest Games ever, and we're more than happy to see Brisbane host the second best Games ever. This is the best city in the world, and if they feel that they need to use the Sydney Opera House to help their credentials, more than happy to. You've had your crack.
