Presidents Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping were caught on a hot mic on Wednesday discussing human longevity in a brief exchange that touched on living to 150 years old and even the prospect of “immortality.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed that he and Chinese President Xi Jinping discussed the topics of longevity and immortality during a recent visit to Beijing. The conversation, which took place as they attended a military parade with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, was picked up by microphones and later addressed by Putin in a press conference.

Putin referenced past interest in the subject by former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and spoke about modern medical advancements, such as organ transplants, that may extend human lifespan. He expressed hope that active lifespans could increase significantly in the future, noting that longevity varies by country.

Some have made films about it, sung about it, while Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin have been discussing it. As they made their way with North Korea's Kim Jong-un to a military parade in Beijing, microphones picked up a conversation about longevity together with their translators. The Russian leader confirmed they'd discussed the topic in a press conference later. Oh yes, Mr Berlusconi was actively into this topic at one point. The modern means of health support, medicine, even some surgeries involving organ transplants, allow humanity to hope that the active lifespan will not be like today. It differs from country to country, but there's hope that our lifespan can increase considerably. The two leaders are both 72 years old, children from the Chinese head of state's perspective.
