Protesters voiced concerns about these firms' weapons being used in Gaza, alleging that some products are promoted as 'combat proven' after use in the conflict.

Despite the British government not inviting an official Israeli delegation due to ongoing military actions in Gaza, Israeli companies were still present at the fair. The UK halted some arms export licences to Israel in the past year, but British-made components for the F-35 warplane, currently used by Israel, remain exempt from the embargo.

With European defence budgets soaring, business is brisk at one of the world's biggest arms fairs. DSEI is held every other year in London's Docklands, and defence and security manufacturers come from far and wide to show off their newest kit. Guns, drones, armoured vehicles and bombs, whatever you're shopping for, there's a smiling salesperson waiting at every booth. Except if you're Al Jazeera filming at the UK arm of Israel's Elbit Systems, no one wanted to talk to us there. Until she comes, can you not film the stand? Nor at Israel Aerospace Industries next door. Is there anybody from the company, would they be able to talk to us? No, neither of them are, mate. For the protesters outside, the presence of Israeli arms makers here is an increasingly intolerable stain on an event they've long despised. Israeli weapons, they say, are being atrocity tested on Palestinians to be sold here as combat proven. It's no secret that weapons made by Israel's biggest arms companies, Elbit, IAI and Rafael, are being used extensively in Gaza, like the Hermes drone, one of Elbit's products, and Rafael's Spike Firefly, which the company even promoted with a video of an unarmed Palestinian in Gaza being hunted by one. Israel's unfolding assault on Gaza City has upset the British government enough that it hasn't invited an Israeli delegation here. But the UK and DSEI's organisers obviously have no objection to the presence of the Israeli companies that make the weapons currently destroying Palestinian homes and lives. It's a difficult one, but we feel that it's a trade fair. The standards that are upheld of the industry in the United Kingdom are very high. And all of those exhibiting have met those standards. Perhaps this is because the UK's arms industry is involved too. Last year, the UK halted 30 arms export licences to Israel. But still missing from the embargo are British-made parts for the F-35 warplane currently being used by Israel to bomb Gaza to rubble. Rory Challans, Al Jazeera, London.
