Prince Harry has lost his appeal in the legal fight to gain back security protection for himself and his family in the United Kingdom. Helena Wilkinson with BBC News, a CBS News partner, reports.

Prince Harry has lost his appeal in the legal proceedings surrounding his security protection in the United Kingdom. Following the decision of the British government to downgrade his security after he stepped back from royal duties with his wife, Meghan, Prince Harry sought a judicial review. The High Court previously upheld this decision, determining that the security arrangements committee acted within the law.

Prince Harry then appealed the High Court's decision at the Court of Appeals, where three senior judges reviewed the case. The judges rejected his appeal, with Sir Geoffrey Voss acknowledging the compelling arguments presented by Prince Harry during the proceedings. However, Voss concluded that despite Prince Harry's grievances, they did not amount to a valid legal argument against the decision of the executive committee responsible for security arrangements, known as RAVEC.

As a result of the court's decision, Prince Harry's security arrangements remain unchanged when he visits the UK. He is required to notify the authorities 28 days in advance so that bespoke arrangements can be made for his visits.

We're also following news out of London. Prince Harry lost his legal challenge over the British government's decision to downgrade his security after he and his wife, Meghan, stepped away from the royal roles. Here's how BBC covered the story this morning. Let me just take you back to when Prince Harry left the UK 2020, he stopped becoming or being a working member of the royal family. And it was after that that the executive that looks after the security arrangements for members of the royal family and also VIPs decided to downgrade his security when he comes to the UK. Prince Harry then brought a judicial review at the High Court against that decision. The decision was upheld, the High Court saying that the committee had acted lawfully. And then Prince Harry brought the case to the Court of Appeals, so went a step further. And as you've mentioned there, this afternoon, three senior judges here at the Court of Appeal rejecting Prince Harry's appeal against a previous High Court decision. Sir Geoffrey Voss, the master of the roles, when he gave that decision, he said that they were powerful and moving arguments made by Prince Harry during the two-day hearing last month. He said, I said that it was plain that the Duke of Sussex felt badly treated by the system, but I concluded, having studied the detailed documents, I could not say the Duke's sense of grievance translated into a legal argument for a challenge to Ravik's decision. So nothing changes in terms of Prince Harry's security. When he comes to the UK, he gets a bespoke arrangement and he has to inform authorities 28 days before he comes so they can make arrangements.
