Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has publicly condemned the misuse of Elon Musk's AI tool Grok after thousands of sexualized images were generated using its image creation feature on the social media platform X. The eSafety Commission has responded by contacting X for further information and is prepared to issue removal notices where necessary. 

In response to the controversy, Grok has disabled its image creation feature for non-paying users, though concerns remain that paying users and a separate Grok app still allow image generation. Authorities and experts are urging parents and carers to remain vigilant, as Australia recently banned children under 16 from social media to enhance online safety.

AI, a tool empowering perpetrators to exploit any man, woman or child in a click of a button. It once again is an example of social media not showing social responsibility. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese today condemning Elon Musk's AI tool Grok, after thousands of generated sexualised images emerged in the past two weeks since X updated its image creation feature. The fact that this tool was used so that people were using its image creation function through Grok is I think just completely abhorrent. The East Safety Commission says it will use its powers to issue removal notices where appropriate and has written to X to seek further information. Grok has turned off the feature for non-paying users. It just means that you have to pay for them. So while this might prevent some customers from being able to do that, perpetrators are not necessarily poor. Despite the restrictions applied within X, there is a separate Grok app. While it doesn't share pictures publicly, non-paying users say they have been able to generate whatever they want. AI is actually kind of dangerous as well. No one's got to know what's real and what's fake anymore. It's now been a month since children under 16 were banned from social media in Australia. Parents are being urged to be wary of where perpetrators may be sourcing these photos from. To think your photos can be not safe, I want to go through Facebook and pull everything off myself. We have to remain vigilant as a government to keep amending our rules and policy and our advice, but so do parents, so do grandparents, so do carers. Rebecca Wilson, 10 News.
