In a recent interview with CNN's Pamela Brown, Griffin and Kit Goldsmith shared their emotional experience of losing their home and community due to the California wildfires. With the couple expecting their first child in a few weeks, the devastation of the fire has turned their lives upside down. Kit expressed her grief over losing the emotional preparations they had undertaken, as well as the challenges they now face in finding a safe place to deliver their baby and reside in the coming month.

Kit highlighted the immense difficulty in processing the rapid changes, noting that all of this upheaval occurred in a mere 48 hours. She also spoke about the heart-wrenching loss of their community, which provided a fundamental support system. Kit described the separation from friends and neighbors as more painful than losing their home. This displacement has left the couple with the daunting task of starting anew and rebuilding their lives from scratch.

You were in the nesting mode, getting the nursery ready, getting everything ready for your precious baby. And now you have lost your home and you had to flee for your life. How are you feeling? Yeah, we are definitely as everyone in our community and like truly unbelievable circumstances. Um, I don't think we had enough time to process what we're all being confronted with. And, um, you know, the idea of trying to figure out where we're going to be for the next month, where we're going to have this baby is all really hard to process, given that it's all just been in the last 48 hours where this is kind of come down on us. Um, I think the thing that I'm truly the saddest about is having lost our community. We had so many friends and a massive support group there that I was really, really planning to lean on and losing them. It's like it's almost harder than losing our home because I know we're all going to be scattered from each other. Um, so it's, uh, yeah, we're just gonna have to start all together from scratch and rebuild.
