The election requires a candidate to secure more than 50 percent of the vote to win outright. Analysts suggest that no candidate is likely to achieve this in the first round, making a runoff between Chakwera and Mutareka probable.

Seventy-year-old Chakwera is facing 16 challenges, including two former presidents. Chakwera is going to scoop a lot of votes. I'm going to vote for Chakwera, because his leadership doesn't consist of tribalism. Chakwera's main rival is former president Peter Mutareka. He's campaigning on a platform of return to trusted leadership. Everyone should go and vote. Please make sure you take your parents with you from the village so that they too can vote. Even if it means carrying them on a motorcycle if they're feeling sick, give them painkillers so they too can vote. The winner needs to have more than 50 percent of the vote. Analysts are predicting that no one will get a majority in the first round of voting, and they expect a runoff between Chakwera and Mutareka.
