It is frankly sickening to see Chris Minns exploit the Bondi tragedy to strip democratic rights from all the people in this state purely to silence criticism of Israel. Tomorrow night they will protest at Town Hall against children being killed despite the Gaza ceasefire and the invitation for Israeli President Isaac Herzog to visit Australia. There is no world in which we should not be able to hold our government to account. They will also demand laws restricting protests be repealed as multiple groups defy the ban. Friday night's demonstration will be followed by another Town Hall rally against the massacre of Kurdish people in Syria on Saturday and on Sunday a Hyde Park march against Indigenous deaths in custody. We respect people who have got a view that they feel that they want to ventilate. We also respect that there's a time and a place for it. I think the community has stopped listening to these protesters. They are sick and tired of this disruption and divisiveness. Police say it's time to bring community tension down. We've just come off the back of the most horrific terrorist incident that Australia has ever seen. Police say they will have a few hundred officers ready to respond tomorrow night but can serve if needed. They say they will make arrests for anyone blocking traffic or for behaviour that is offensive or intimidating. They insist free speech isn't banned and park gatherings are permitted but acknowledge the legislation can be confusing. I know it's not exactly the most clear cut legislation but we work with it.
