Police have initiated legal action in the Supreme Court to block a protest planned by the Palestine Action Group on the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The protest organisers have called for a rally outside the court ahead of the hearing and claim support from over 300 organisations, including significant trade union groups. 

The organisers state their intention to proceed with the protest, regardless of the court's decision, aiming to draw attention to the situation in Gaza. The outcome of the court case will determine whether the protest can legally go ahead, but organisers have indicated they may continue with their plans even if the court rules against them.

Sandra, yes, the battle for the bridge is heading for a courtroom tomorrow. It's listed in the Supreme Court at 12.30 with protest organisers, the Palestine Action Group, Sydney, calling for a rally beforehand at midday out the front of the law courts. Now, this action is technically being brought by police to try and block Sunday's planned protest. The organisers will, of course, fight that. They have spoken to their lawyers today and they have told us that they believe the protest is now unstoppable, claiming they have support from more than 300 organisations, including large parts of the trade union movement, who are calling on the Premier, Chris Minns, and police to get out of the way and to let them march on the Harbour Bridge on Sunday to send a global message about the genocide occurring in Gaza. What we are seeing now is a really unstoppable tidal wave of humanity that is going to take to our streets and take to our bridge this Sunday. Plan A is to win in court. Plan B is we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Whether that plan B, Sandra, is to actually physically walk across the bridge in defiance of a quarter, if they're unsuccessful, we're going to have to wait and see.
