The Polad family announcing that they will hold on to their majority stake in the team. Rob Olson is live in Minneapolis for us tonight. Rob, what does this mean now for the future of that team? Well, it's still a little bit unclear because there's still some transactions to be approved by Major League Baseball involving some other investors in the team, but it means that Polad's retained control. Now, as recently as this spring, they had a potential buyer walk away. As recently as the All-Star break, the MLB commissioner said some sort of transaction was imminent but didn't clarify what this was. But for now, the Polad's will remain in charge and it has a mixed reaction from fans. So they're holding on the team. That's good. I keep it in town. You like that idea? Yeah, I do. Pat Mayen knows a lot of Twins fans were excited about the idea of new ownership. He doesn't agree, but he gets it. Well, they're looking for a change, I think, you know. Yeah. Improve the team. Improve the player lineup. You don't think a new owner necessarily brings that? Necessarily. Ownership changes naturally bring optimism. When Carl Polad bought the team in 1984 for $44 million, two World Series titles soon followed. His three sons took over after Carl's death in 0-9 and that change, along with a move to target field, renewed optimism. But that has since steadily eroded. So they are going to continue to run the franchise and we know how they run the franchise. They've been running the franchise since 1984. John Bonas of the Twins Daily podcast says the Polad's no longer selling, he considers, bad news for fans. They have not shown an ability to really grow the franchise or to invest in the franchise to the point where Twins fans can feel proud and excited about the future of the team. The dismay is pretty clear in the comments on our own Facebook post about this. Fan entering the transfer portal, seeking a franchise dedicated to winning. And oh goody, looks like my summers have opened up for the foreseeable future. But in the announcement of not selling, current chairman Joe Polad, Carl's grandson, said there is a partial sale. Two significant minority investors to bring fresh ideas and long-term vision. For some fans, that's at least something. We're always hopeful, right? We're hopeful that, and so this is a change. So anything they do that's different than what they have been doing gives you a little hope. Yeah, hope is important. So Rob, what do we know about these limited partners, who they are and how they could potentially impact the team? Well, we know very little actually in the statement from the Polad's. From Joe Polad, the executive chairman, said that more details would come out once MLB approved these transactions. So we don't know who they are, how much they're buying, although he did tell the Minnesota Star-Tribune today, one group's from Minnesota, another from the East Coast. But it remains to be seen how much they'll own, how much influence they'll have on forming this team. But the Polad's say they know fans are mixed right now and they promise they'll build something winning. We hope. I think that's, people just want to see that pathway forward.
