And the Pacific must never be seen as an arena for others. We are not passive bystanders. Palau's President claims his country's already at war with China, asking the US for a stronger presence. I'm not responding to... Dismissing the question while seeking to expand Australia's influence. Fiji's now interested in striking a security deal which could include police training and defence engagement. I think we should get our officials working together to make sure we take this important relationship just to the next level. Anthony Albanese hoping for a win after Vanuatu yesterday put a $500 million deal on ice, concerned about losing funding from China. I've been very upfront with the Australian people that we are in a permanent contest now in the Pacific. But the biggest threat confronting the region is climate change. Anthony Albanese says leaders support Australia's bid to host COP, a major climate summit, in Adelaide next year in partnership with the Pacific. But it's also clear that there is some disappointment that Australia is not doing more to tackle climate change. Leaders tonight signing a treaty for a Pacific climate fund. Australia's already pledged $100 million. It's a promise to Pacific communities that they will not face climate threats alone. The Prime Minister's still locked away in meetings. We understand shortly he'll have a one-on-one with Solomon Island's Prime Minister. Once the formal talks are over tonight will be a little more casual. There's a dinner, a family photo and a signing of a peace declaration. Then tomorrow the leaders will actually be leaving Honiara, flying to another island for the leaders' retreat. And this is when they can talk privately amongst each other without dignitaries and staff watching by. It'll all be behind closed doors.
