Palestinians in Gaza, particularly in Khan Yunis and Gaza City, continue to endure severe hardships despite a declared ceasefire. Food distribution points and soup kitchens are essential for survival, as many residents lack the means to buy food and have no employment opportunities. 

Although Israel agreed to allow unrestricted humanitarian aid into Gaza as part of the ceasefire, only a fraction of the needed supplies are reaching the population according to aid organizations. Many families remain separated and without access to housing, water, or electricity, while efforts to rebuild continue amid ongoing shortages.

Palestinians in Khan Yunis are hungry. Food distribution points like this one are vital. For many, it means the difference between life and death. Life is difficult for us because we own nothing. We don't have anything to buy food with. There's no work. Without the soup kitchens here, we wouldn't have eaten. These soup kitchens keep us alive. The ceasefire was supposed to open up Gaza. Israel agreed to allow unrestricted delivery of humanitarian aid. But according to the World Food Program, only half of the food that's needed is getting in. Other aid groups say it may be even less. Many families long to provide for themselves once again. But Israel's destruction of the Gaza Strip has left them at the mercy of these unreliable aid deliveries. Every day I come to the soup kitchen here to be able to provide food for my children. They say there's a truce, but it is a sham truce because the siege is still in place. Flour is still expensive and everything is expensive for us. Further north, things are even more desperate. After the ceasefire, many Palestinians were eager to return to their homes in Gaza City. But instead, all they found was a wasteland. We're living in a difficult situation, extremely difficult. Many people came to their homes here and then went back to the south again. Half our children are here, half our children are in the south, because we can't find housing or water or electricity or anything. Food and shelter, once the basics of life, have become desperately needed commodities. But despite the hardships, the people of Gaza are doing all they can to rebuild their shattered lives. This is Al Jazeera reporting from the Gaza-Palestine border.
