Investigations are continuing after two men were rescued from a fire by police following an alleged domestic violence incident. Emergency services were called to a home in Sydney's west, after two people were heard arguing.

Police responded to a violent domestic dispute in Doonside, where a 46-year-old man allegedly used an accelerant to set a house on fire while detaining his 35-year-old housemate. Four officers, including a recent recruit, entered the burning property to separate the men and rescue a dog, despite lacking full fire protective equipment. 

The incident caused significant damage to the home, a jeep, and a Mercedes. The 35-year-old man sustained facial cuts, while the older man suffered burns and remains in hospital under police guard. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the cause of the dispute.

Pair rescued from burning house

A domestic dispute turned red hot after a 4am argument ended in a dramatic takedown where four officers, one just two weeks on the job, courageously stormed a blazing Doonside home to split up a feuding 46-year-old truck driver and his 35-year-old housemate. The actions of the police this morning was nothing short of heroic in my mind. We've obviously attended a violent situation with a house engulfed in flames and we need to remember that they aren't equipped with full fire protective equipment. A jeep, a Mercedes and the garage of the property sustained significant damage that police say was caused by the older man who's known to them. That 46-year-old male is alleged to have used an accelerator throughout the house and then ignited that accelerator. This 46-year-old, as I said, was armed with that sharp metal instrument. He was effectively detaining the 35-year-old near the seat of that fire. The guy next door was going crazy, bashing someone obviously and ramming a car into the house. It's understood the 35-year-old man moved in with the 46-year-old just two weeks ago and police are now working to figure out exactly what sparked this fiery exchange. You could hear the glass, they smashed every single window in the house. Significant flame activity was starting to push through inside the home but a wall of flame literally when firefighters arrived. The younger man was treated for cuts to his face, his housemate for burns to his back. He remains in hospital under police guard. We hope to speak to him when he's well enough to do so and then the investigation will progress from there. Their dog, rescued too, was picked up by Blacktown Animal Rehoming Centre.
