Stoppard was best known for co-writing the Oscar-winning film 'Shakespeare in Love' and for his prolific output of plays for stage, radio, and television, including the celebrated 'Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead.'

Born Thomas Straussler in what is now the Czech Republic, Stoppard's family fled Nazi Germany's invasion. Throughout his career, he was a vocal advocate for free speech and received numerous awards, including a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth for his contributions to literature.

That play reimagined Shakespeare from the point of view of two minor characters in Hamlet. Daniel Radcliffe and Joshua Maguire starred in the play in London in 2017. And as Josh said, we're two characters that really, really, really don't want to die. Mm. The Guardian newspaper said that each new Stoppard play after that was an international event. Stoppard was born Thomas Straussler to a Jewish family in what is now the Czech Republic. His family fled when Nazi Germany invaded. In his career, he became a champion for free speech, working with such organisations as Index on Censorship. He spoke out in December 2010 as a supporter of the Belarus theatre to protest against a crackdown on the opposition in the country. To add to a shelf full of theatre awards, there was one from Queen Elizabeth that made him Sir Tom Stoppard for services to literature for a person often hailed as the greatest playwright of his generation.
