Top Trump administration officials are meeting Ukrainian negotiators in Florida this weekend, pushing to broker an end to Russia's war in Ukraine.

Yumurov and his team are scheduled to meet US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy Steve Wyckoff in Florida. While President Zelensky has expressed optimism about reaching a peace agreement, skepticism remains, particularly regarding Russia's willingness to negotiate. Following the US meetings, Wyckoff is expected to travel to Russia for discussions with President Vladimir Putin. Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron will meet with Zelensky in Paris to discuss conditions for a lasting peace.

Rubio and Witkoff to meet with Ukraine's negotiators in Florida

A new delegation chief for high-stakes talks. Security Council Secretary Rustem Yumurov is now leading the Ukrainian team heading to the US for discussions on a peace deal that Washington is aiming to broker between Kyiv and Moscow. It comes after the resignation of Andriy Yamak, President Zelensky's right-hand man, who stepped down hours after anti-corruption investigators raided his home. On Sunday, Yumurov and his team will meet with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy Steve Wyckoff. Zelensky insists he's confident that a deal is on the horizon. Diplomacy remains active, the American side is being constructive and it is quite realistic to finalise steps in the coming days to determine how to end the war with dignity. The Ukrainian delegation has the necessary directives. Others, however, are more sceptical, including this former diplomat. President Vladimir Putin has already said several times that he doesn't want to sign any agreement whatsoever, whether it's a ceasefire, a peace agreement or any other kind of agreement. We are far from reaching any kind of agreement. He doesn't want to sign with Zelensky because he considers him illegitimate. After meeting the Ukrainian officials, Wyckoff is due to travel to Russia next week to meet with President Vladimir Putin. Over in Europe, President Emmanuel Macron will hold discussions with Zelensky in Paris on Monday. According to the French presidency, the two leaders will talk about the conditions for a just and lasting peace.
