Entire areas of Sri Lanka's capital were flooded on Sunday after a powerful cyclone triggered heavy rains and mudslides across the island, with authorities reporting nearly 200 dead and dozens more missing.

Cyclone Ditwah has led to devastating flooding across Sri Lanka, with the death toll approaching 200 and more than 20,000 homes destroyed. The government has declared a state of emergency, describing it as the country's worst natural disaster in several years. 

Relief operations are underway, with troops and aid organizations assisting tens of thousands of displaced residents. About a third of the country is without electricity, and the cyclone has since moved towards India, while other Southeast Asian nations have also been affected by flooding.

A cyclone triggered heavy flooding, with dozens of people reported killed and missing and more than 20,000 homes destroyed. A state of emergency has been declared in what is the worst natural disaster in Sri Lanka in several years. There has been lots of damage done. But levels compared to 1989 and 2016 are just two feet less. Troops were deployed to help those stranded by Cyclone Ditwa. Tens of thousands of people have sought refuge in hundreds of relief centres, mostly set up in schools. Aid organisations and volunteers have been working to do what they can to help. We are collecting dry vessions and other supplementary items to be distributed among affected people. Now there are about more than 200,000 people affected due to floods and we are actually collecting from various donors and volunteers. Officials said about a third of the country was without electricity after power lines collapsed. Cyclone Ditwa, after moving away from Sri Lanka on Saturday, headed towards neighbouring India. Other countries, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand have also been hit by flooding. Scientists warn that the climate emergency is making such extreme weather events worse.

President Trump intensified his pressure campaign on Venezuela on Saturday. He posted that the airspace around the country is "closed in its entirety." It comes amid growing pressure on Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro to step down.
