Oscar Piastri experienced a challenging qualifying session at Spa-Francorchamps, narrowly missing out on pole position to his McLaren teammate Lando Norris by just eight hundredths of a second. This came shortly after Piastri had outperformed his main title rival by over half a second in earlier sessions.

In the Belgian sprint race, Piastri was overtaken by Max Verstappen through slipstreaming and had to settle for second place. Both Piastri and Norris acknowledged the benefits and challenges of their close teammate rivalry, with Piastri aiming to reverse the result in the upcoming main race.
