One person was shot and another is in custody after a situation, a shooting happened right here in this area near East High School at 5 just before 5 a.m. this morning. I'm FOX 13's Tina Giuliano. And so this whole area is blocked off. They're still investigating some of the evidence left near the 7-11, but in terms of the surrounding area, the school is going business as usual. Kids can go to school. There's no threat to the public, according to police. But I spoke with some neighbors about what they heard early this morning. There was shots popped off and then I think I heard some tire squeals, like maybe about 35, 45 seconds later. Salt Lake City police say they don't know what the motive is at this point and they said it appeared that the two didn't know each other. There was some sort of disagreement, altercation between these individuals that led to the gunfire. I think there's just a theme here of people are resulting to violence to solve disputes and that's never acceptable. That's something we will continue to do everything we can to try to prevent. A gun is not a way to solve a dispute. So the investigation is ongoing and like I said, there is no threat to the public, but we'll keep you updated on the air and online as we learn more.
