Officials in St. Louis, Missouri, are actively searching for monkeys that have been loose in the city for approximately a week. The origins and ownership of the monkeys remain unclear, and their current whereabouts are unknown. The Department of Health has cautioned residents about the potential risks posed by the unpredictable animals and advised the public to avoid contact.

Efforts to locate the monkeys have been complicated by AI-generated images circulating on social media. Authorities have announced that anyone who safely delivers the monkeys to the Department of Health will not face charges, in hopes of encouraging cooperation. The Saint Louis Zoo is assisting with the ongoing investigation.

We know that those monkeys were first spotted in Saint Louis about a week ago, but at this point still no clarity on who owns them, how they got there and where they are exactly right now. So at this point, this is what the Department of Health says that they're working on. But they also say read that AI generated images that have popped up on social media have sort of complicated that search. They also, though, are sending a warning. This may sound a bit funny to people who live in the area, but they do want to warn them about the risks and dangers. Some of these monkeys might pose on the community, so take a listen. The information that we've been given from our partner agencies is that the monkeys are very intelligent, but they're going to be unpredictable and for individuals that these monkeys are not known to, we just don't want them to come in contact with each other because of that unpredictable nature. And new today read the Department of Health in Saint Louis is also announcing that if anybody comes forward and delivers those monkeys to the department, they're going to be waiving any charges against those folks. So again, an incentive to come forward if you have any information about where those monkeys are right now.
