Former President Barack Obama spoke at an event in Erie, Pennsylvania, where he addressed the recent assassination of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk. Obama described the murder as horrific and highlighted the need for political leaders, including President Trump, to unite the nation and discourage divisive rhetoric. 

Obama stressed that the foundation of democracy relies on the ability to disagree without resorting to violence. He praised Utah Governor Spencer Cox for his response to the incident and called for Americans to respect differing opinions while condemning violence in all forms.

Now, during that conversation, Reid, he was asked about the assassination of Charlie Kirk and Obama called the murder horrific, adding that President Trump's rhetoric, he says, is part of a bigger and broader problem, saying the president should, quote, pull people together. Listen, there are no ifs, ands or buts about it. Um, that the central premise of our of our democratic system is, is that we have to be able to disagree and have sometimes really contentious debates without resort to violence. And, and when when it happens to some, uh, buddy, even if you think they're quote unquote on the other side of the argument, that's a threat to all of us. And we have to be clear and forthright in condemning Obama also praised Utah's Republican Governor Spencer Cox's handling of the aftermath of Charlie Kirk's murder.
