The nurses strike in New York City has reached its fourth day, with 15,000 nurses from Montefiore and four other private hospital systems remaining off the job. Union representatives and hospital executives are scheduled to return to the bargaining table with mediators in an effort to resolve the dispute.

Nurses are seeking better working conditions, citing issues such as overcrowded emergency rooms, inadequate patient-to-nurse ratios, and workplace injuries, along with improved pay and benefits. Hospital officials have called the union's demands financially unsustainable, estimating the cost at over $3.5 billion. Negotiations are ongoing, and nurses have stated they will continue striking until an agreement is reached.

Breaking new developments this morning on the nurses strike. Union representatives and hospital executives now have a plan to get back to the bargaining table on day four of the largest nurses strike in our city's history. We've got News 12's Brittany Cadet at Montefiore Hospital right now with what all this means. Good morning Brittany. Give us the update. It's been almost a full work week since these nurses walked out of the job on Monday. And have come to the picket lines to protest what they've been asking for. Today, union reps and hospital executives will be going back to the table to try and reach a deal. But this time with mediators. That deal has not been made for Montefiore along with four other private hospital systems here across the city. 15,000 nurses have been on strike all week. They're calling for better working conditions, pointing to overcrowding in emergency rooms, inadequate patient to nurse ratios, and people being hurt on the job. They also want better pay and benefits. Montefiore says the union's demands are reckless. Adding it would cost the hospital more than three and a half billion dollars to grant them what they're asking for. Bringing mediators to these upcoming meetings tonight and tomorrow could be another step in the direction of a deal being reached.
