Authorities in New York are investigating a deadly shooting in a Manhattan office building where four people were killed. The gunman, who died by suicide, left a note claiming he suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) from playing football, though officials confirmed he never played in the NFL. 

Investigators believe the shooter was attempting to reach the NFL's offices but ended up on the wrong floor. Among the victims were an NYPD officer and a Blackstone executive, while an NFL employee was seriously injured. Police are gathering evidence and interviewing the gunman's associates, and the NFL has announced increased security measures in response.

One day after a gunman opened fire inside a Manhattan office building, investigators are combing through a note found on his body where he claims to have suffered from the brain disease, CTE. He alluded to having CTE from playing in the NFL. He never played in the NFL. We're still going through the suicide note to zero in on the exact reason. Mayor Eric Adams says investigators believe the gunman was trying to get to the NFL's offices after shooting multiple people in the building's lobby but took the wrong elevator. He ended up on the 33rd floor, where police say he turned the gun on himself. The NFL says one of its employees was seriously injured in the shooting. Several others were killed, including 36-year-old NYPD officer Deidreul Islam and an executive from the financial firm Blackstone. It's a rupture in the soul of our city, our beloved city, and it requires that we mourn and honor all those we lost. Investigators were still on scene Tuesday collecting evidence. Squad cars have also been parked outside the gunman's gated Las Vegas neighborhood as police try to piece together a timeline. They're talking to everyone, if he worked, where he worked, who he worked with, his friends and family.
