A lightning strike during overnight storms caused a fire at a Florence apartment building Thursday morning, Florence Fire Chief Rodney Wren told us.

A lightning strike led to a fire at an apartment building on Rio Grande Circle in Florence, Kentucky, affecting eight units. Emergency crews responded quickly, and all residents were able to evacuate without injury. No injuries were reported among firefighters or other responders. The Red Cross is on site to assist those displaced by the fire, as authorities continue to assess the extent of the damage and determine how many people were affected. Multiple fire departments participated in the response, but no rescues were necessary.

We also have some breaking news to get to right now. A lightning strike apparently caused a house fire in northern Kentucky. We want to get right back out to WCVU nine news reporter Ali Kramer live in Florence this morning. Ali, you just got an update from the fire chief there a couple of minutes ago. What's the latest? It looks like it's raining. I did. And so, yeah, that makes things a little difficult for them. Luckily, they're wrapping up their work here. They were actually called around four o'clock this morning to this apartment building. It's Rio Grande Circle just off of U. S. 42 here in Florence. And you can see the damage on the end of the building there. That's where they believe the lightning hit. And so they, of course, had to make sure everybody was out. Eight units impacted. They say everyone was able to self evacuate. No injuries there and no injuries from firefighters or crews responding to the scene. That's some of the good news there. The Red Cross is on the scene helping those who were displaced. Because, I mean, frankly, the fire kind of ripped through and tried to get through what is considered like a firewall between each unit. And so they're having to kind of comb through everything. What we know is that there was a massive response to this. At least five departments, Independence, Florence Union, four different fire chiefs, dozens of firefighters just in case there were injuries or there were rescues in the situation. Luckily, none of that had to be handled. But as I mentioned, eight different units impacted. So numerous people, they're still working to figure out just how many. But as they kind of continue their investigation here, they'll be able to see it a little bit better as the sun comes up. Kristen, for now, we're going to stay here in Florence to get maybe just a little more information from the Red Cross and we'll touch base very soon. Yeah. All right.
