Emergency responders quickly mobilized, evacuating 618 people, including 583 passengers, 15 crew members, eight cleaners, 11 catering staff and one medical professional. Seven passengers sustained minor to moderate injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. The remaining evacuees were safely returned to Idu-Kubwa stations via rescue train. The Nigerian Railway Corporation announced a temporary suspension of all services on the route. A refund has been reissued to affected ticket holders and Federal Ministry of Transport has begun formal investigations. These derailments add to a worrying trend.
