Fire crews are still battling multiple wildfires across Southern California, including the Hughes Fire which broke out Wednesday and has already torched more than 10,000 acres and forced tens of thousands of evacuations in north Los Angeles County.

More than a thousand structures have been destroyed and lives lost as wildfires sweep across parts of Los Angeles.

In Southern California, multiple wildfires continue to pose significant challenges to fire crews and residents. Among the fires is the Hughes Fire, which has already consumed over 10,000 acres and prompted the evacuation of tens of thousands of people in northern Los Angeles County. The Santa Ana winds, a critical factor in fueling these blazes, remain a major concern.

A new wildfire sprang up in Ventura County, lying about 50 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles, near agricultural areas and a college campus. Another alarming blaze flared up near Bel Air, an exclusive neighborhood, before fire crews managed to control it. The Castaic fire continues to burn through dry brush, keeping residents on high alert as they have been from weeks of prior warnings. Among the newly evacuated individuals is Adania Perez, who expressed her distress after her brother lost his home in a previous fire in Altadena.

Residents of Altadena faced difficulties during the Eaton Fire, with some, including Florence Kearns Wilson, reporting a lack of official evacuation warnings. Unfortunately, this fire claimed 17 lives in West Altadena, where evacuation orders were delayed or not issued at all. Communities expressed significant frustration with the lack of timely alerts. Currently, residents are facing the threat of high winds, which has led to red flag warnings being issued, while there is also anticipation of potential mudslides due to impending rain.

The bigger concern this fire near Castaic still burning through dry brush residents already on edge from weeks of warnings had to scramble the safety. Adania Perez was among the 30,000 newest evacuees. My brother just lost his home over in Altadena fire and now I'm like oh my god now it's my turn. While residents here got prompt evacuation warnings for thousands in Altadena early on the morning of January 8th at the height of the devastating Eaton fire. I didn't get any alerts I woke up on pure vibes. Florence Kearns Wilson is among many demanding answers. So there was no official warning no official order issued it was just go go go for you at 4 a.m. Yeah and it was very just like neighbors taking care of each other because no one else would tell us what to do. All 17 who died in the fire were residents of West Altadena where evacuation warnings came too late or not at all. There are a lot of other people that were not safe and they could have been a lot of frustration and now tonight a new fear residents are bracing for rain and the threat of mudslides.
