A new swimming facility is being developed at Iron Cove along Sydney's popular Bay Run, a location frequented by thousands of joggers, cyclists, and sightseers daily. The $3.8 million project, funded by the state government and Inner West Council, will include features such as a shark net, jetty, pontoon, and a splash area for children and families.

The facility is expected to be completed in about six months, with an anticipated opening in time for the summer of 2026. Water quality will be monitored regularly, and the swim site will close if conditions are unsuitable. Additionally, a nearby building will be renovated to serve as club rooms for swimmers and other community groups.

We've seen other swimming spots on our harbour be great successes at Barangaroo for example and here on the Bay Run is going to be no exception. And if you're wondering about the water quality. It will be monitored through beach watch and on days when the water quality in the harbour is poor then the swim site will be closed. A new council grant will give this nearby rundown building a second life as footy club rooms which may be used by swimmers. With a jetty and a pontoon, accessibility all the way through the project, a splash and play area for kids and families.
