Dokotaru's last known contact was a distress call to emergency services, during which she claimed her ex-boyfriend was trying to kill her. Police were unable to access her apartment at the time, and she was found dead the following day. The prosecution alleges Zayat inflicted fatal blunt force head trauma and had a history of violence towards Dokotaru, while the defense denies he contributed to her death. The court heard that Dokotaru had multiple substances in her system, but a pathologist identified blunt force injury as the cause of death. The trial is expected to hear from 40 witnesses.

Tatiana Dokotaru's last known contact was an 89-second call to 000 from her high-rise Liverpool apartment. Just after 11.30pm on May 26, 2023, she told operators, Yes, hi, my ex-boyfriend is here and he's trying to kill me. My ex-husband is stealing my money from the house. He is taking off me and bashing me. The Crown Prosecutor says Ms Dokotaru's phone was then thrown off the balcony and the call disconnected. Police were unable to gain access to the unit and were only provided the street address. Ms Dokotaru was found dead in her apartment the next day. Her ex-partner Danny Zayat was charged with her murder. He pleaded not guilty and his trial began today with his mother and brother present at Sydney's Supreme Court. The jury was told Zayat inflicted blunt force head trauma, the Crown says, killed Ms Dokotaru, also saying he had a tendency to be physically violent and verbally abusive towards her. The Crown says she explained her injuries to others, saying she had been in a car accident and had tripped and fallen whilst cleaning, but argues this was not the truth. Zayat is alleged to have told witnesses and police, I got into an argument with her because she's on heavy medication. I came back and found her like that with a young child crying inside the unit. I shouldn't have left her. She's depressed. The jury was told Ms Dokotaru was found with alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepine and cannabis in her system, but a pathologist says the direct cause of death was a blunt force head injury. Zayat's defence team disputes that he did anything to her to significantly contribute to her death. The trial will hear from 40 witnesses. Sarah Navin, 10 News.
