Nearly half of parents are considering having fewer children due to these costs, and experts advise seeking assistance from schools or support organizations.

Melbourne's now the most expensive city for both an independent and a government education and the Catholic education is most expensive in Brisbane. For a child starting this year, for 13 years of schooling, the national average for a government school eclipses $113,000, with the most affordable city being Perth and Melbourne the least. For Catholic schools, Brisbane saw a huge 35% jump to $273,000, with the capital the cheapest. Melbourne also took the cake for the most expensive private schooling at $436,000, the cheapest in Adelaide. For private schools, tuition fees account for almost two-thirds of total costs, while for public schools, fees account for only 10%, with additional expenses inflating numbers. We're hearing that uniform costs are increasing, that laptops are really essential, and a lot of families can't afford laptops or internet connectivity, and they're struggling to pay the costs of excursions. Some relying on credit cards or having to compromise. Parents report that they really value education and that they're prepared to make sacrifices, perhaps not having a family holiday, working longer hours, or going without buying something for themselves. It's really, really stressful for parents. To help ease the pressure, the word of advice for parents, chat directly with your school to look into state government assistance or reach out to organisations like the Smith family. 45% of parents are considering having fewer children, reflective in the decline in the birth rate. It's all expensive for school, there's two of them. I just have the one, so it's manageable, and I can understand as it just gets more and more harder and harder.
